One of the biggest names in the home energy industry is making a big change. Tesla’s Powerwall 3 is now available in the United States, and it includes some impressive upgrades when compared to its predecessors.
The Powerwall 3 is an all-new home battery system that stores your energy for backup during blackouts and can be installed either on its own or with a solar system. Tesla continues to be a leader in the industry as this new version of the Powerwall includes many upgrades and new features. As a certified Tesla installer, we are proud to announce that we will soon be installing the Powerwall 3 throughout Southern California.
The Powerwall 3’s features and specifications set it apart from previous versions of Tesla’s home battery. With a maximum continuous power output of 11.5 kW, it is a massive improvement over the Powerwall 2, which offered a continuous power output of only 5 kW. Features and specifications of the Powerwall 3 include:
These features make the Powerwall 3 a true powerhouse, able to protect you from power outages and power large appliances better than anything that came before it. It is also easy to install and to stack, so you can install up to four units for your home or business efficiently. Its built-in inverter and system controller also makes it cheaper and easier to install. The inverter has the capacity to support a 6-panel solar system and up to 20 kW of power. You can also download the Tesla app so that you can easily control and manage your Powerwall from your phone to ensure it is performing optimally and maximizing your savings. If you live in an area where your home is at risk of flooding, the Powerwall 3 has superior water resistance, considering itself to be flood resistant.
The Powerwall 3, as mentioned above, has a maximum continuous power reported at 11.5 kW. In comparison, the Powerwall 2 had a maximum continuous power of only 5 kW. This significant improvement means that you will be less dependent on the power grid, and should be able to power more appliances, including comfortably charging your electric vehicle using the Powerwall 3. The Powerwall 3 also has greater on-grid power (11.5 kW vs 5 kW) and backup power (11.5 kW vs 7 kW) than the Powerwall 2. As previously mentioned, the Powerwall 3 has a built-in inverter, while the Powerwall 2 does not. This makes the 3 simpler and cheaper to install.
When it comes to compatibility and adding to existing systems, there are a few things to consider. First of all, the Powerwall 3 is not compatible with the old Powerwall 2. You will not be able to add a Powerwall 3 to an existing Powerwall 2 system. However, it can be added to an existing solar system.
For those living in California, adding a Powerwall 3 to your current system will automatically switch you over to the new NEM 3.0. As the new net metering system will affect your overall savings, it’s worth considering the pros and cons of installing a new Powerwall 3 if you are currently on the older NEM 2.0.
It’s no secret that the future will be built on sustainable energy. As energy costs continue to rise, and climate change becomes more of an issue, alternative sources of energy have become increasingly popular. In addition to the many environmental benefits, going with renewable energy is also a smart move financially. Going solar was the first big move, but as energy policies continue to change, it’s become clear that this isn’t enough on its own. To truly maximize solar energy, it needs to not only be generated, but harnessed for later use. Enter the home battery system, and the next logical step in the process: PV-plus-solar.
So why should you invest in a home battery system like the Powerwall 3? Batteries offer many benefits, especially when paired with solar panels. Together, they can maximize your energy efficiency and in turn increase your savings. Here are some of the many benefits of investing in a battery:
